HONOLULU—Divine Performing Arts' Chinese Spectacular opened at the Neil Blaisdell Centre in Honolulu on April 21. The show brought traditional Chinese culture back to Hawaii. Traditional Chinese culture has not been seen in Hawaii for many years.

At least half of the people living in Hawaii are Asians. The majority of these are of Chinese ancestry. The Chinese first arrived in Hawaii over two hundred years ago. Rodwin Wong and his mother, fourth and fifth-generation Chinese-Americans, felt that the Chinese Spectacular celebrated the long rich history of Chinese culture. Wong and his mother are very proud of their Chinese cultural heritage.

Rodwin Wong is an attorney in Hawaii. Wong attended the show with his mother and her friend Jim Arquette, a local real estate developer. Mrs. Wong told The Epoch Times that her ancestors had come to Honolulu from Zhongshan City in Guangdong Province four generations ago. She said she was very happy to watch the show today.

Wong felt the performance was excellent. He had never seen a show like this before. "We haven't had a chance to attend a show like this before. We are so happy to see Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular come to Honolulu," said Wong. "As a person of Chinese ancestry, I felt that the show celebrated the long rich history of our Chinese cultural heritage. It is a shame that such great performances are so rarely seen in Western society." Wong's mother said that she liked the songs very much.

"For me, this show was more artistic," said Mrs. Wong's friend Jim Arquette. "I usually go to see Chinese martial arts performances."

Arquette also said that the Chinese Spectacular had sent some very important messages. "I liked the dance entitled 'Awaken,'" said Arquette. "I also liked the dance entitled 'Rising Lotus,' which talked about the experiences of three female Falun Gong practitioners. I believe all people should have freedom of speech. The Chinese regime should not oppress it's citizen's basic human rights." Arquette also added, "I liked the drumming, because I like things with strong energy."
