VANCOUVER—A young married couple who attended the opening of the Chinese Spectacular at Surrey's Bell Performing Arts Center on Friday were surprised and delighted with the unique cultural show.
Daniel Cahmanao, an Investment Specialist, and Robin Cahmanao, who works with special needs children, met with The Epoch Times on Friday evening to discuss the Spectacular.
"It's good to get an awareness and see the diversity of the culture that is amongst us. You know, I'm unfamiliar with this experience and am so excited," said Robin Cahmanao, who works with special needs children.
Her husband, Daniel, an investment specialist, said "we were just discussing about how the show brings out real emotion, especially the alto female singer, holding one note for such a long time."
They were both teary-eyed and Robin attributed that to the message conveyed in the songs.
The couple felt that the show was successful at conveying traditional chinese culture and history.
"Everything was a complete surprise," said Daniel. "I didn't know what to expect and it was so engaging. It all fits together so perfectly – every act."
We asked them whether they thought it was good to bring this kind of cultural show to Canada. Robin says, "absolutely –
Robin added that such a show has value for Canadians and "we need to show appreciation as to what the culture is all about and open it up to all people just like everything else."
Daniel thinks we need to take a more educated look into Chinese culture, such as the impressive martial arts.
"This show is appropriate for all cultures and backgrounds," said Robin. And Daniel said, "I think anyone could get something out of it."
