VANCOUVER, Canada—Louis Peterson, who works in the chemistry department at Simon Fraser University, travelled all the way from Lions Bay to see the premiere of the Chinese Spectacular at the Surrey's Bell Performing Arts Centre on Friday evening.
"We've seen one or two Chinese extravaganzas and we really enjoy it. This one is perhaps the best. So fresh, so vibrant, it really is so beautiful. What a show, what a show," said Peterson, who attended the show with Carole Conlin, an administrator.
"We really liked the singers. The best thing was the lady singer, she was fabulous. The dancing, the water scenes, the drumming, was just pure harmony. And the very, very dramatic scene was the Falun Gong story, that was so dramatic it really was, how everything went dark. The whole thing was just very lovely."
When asked if she thought the Chinese Spectacular portrayed traditional Chinese culture, Conlin, an administrator. replied, "Oh yes I think so, it's so beautiful, just excellent."
Qouia Bistani, a student who came to show for the first time said he would like to go again.
"It was spectacular, all the costumes were so great, it was so beautiful. The music and coordination were really awesome. It was my first time to a Chinese dance show and I think I would come again. The water nymphs and the Mongolian Bowl Dance were my favourites."
