The Chinese Spectacular graced the stages of Seattle's Paramount Theatre and presented aspects of Chinese culture which stretches back 5,000 years and encompasses traditional Chinese dance, instrumentation, and costumes.

Brian Dirks, a communications director for the lieutenant governor of Washington State, Brad Owen, was in attendance on Thursday and commented on the performance.

"It is very spectacular and I truly enjoyed it. I enjoyed the colors and I had particular interest in the Mongolian bowl dancing, which was wonderful. The drummers were also absolutely spectacular. Overall, it is a very, very good example of Chinese Culture and traditions and I think it is very amazing and very good. All of it was very good," he said.

When asked if he thought this show would promote Chinese culture to the people of Seattle or Washington, Brain said, "Oh yes, yeah, we have especially in Seattle a strong Chinese population, and even among the non-Chinese I think this is the kind of thing that people would enjoy seeing."

He was also in China in 2006 and went to Beijing, Chengdu, and Menyang in Szechuan province. He said that he "saw the celebration of a certain poet and the dancing was somewhat similar to this so this reminds me a lot of my experiences in China."

Mr. Dirks attended the performance with his wife and he shared about how they had discussed the items and how much they had enjoyed each one.

When speaking about his wife's appreciation of the show, he said, "Yes, I talked to her and we were exchanging complementary comments during the show, and saying, 'amazing,' 'wonderful,' 'awesome,' and things like that. She did enjoy it very much, though she hasn't had a lot of experiences with this kind. Neither one of us have, but I could tell by the look in her eyes that she thought it was a good experience and we were just delighted to be here." Talking about the segment about the persecution of Falun Gong ('The Risen Lotus Flower') where three ladies were in prison for practicing Falun Gong and one was beaten to death by the prison guards while she was trying to protect the other two, he said "I hate to see people in any country be persecuted and so that was a particularly powerful segment of the show … so it's educational to me as well to learn more about that."

When asked about other performances in relation to the Spectacular he said, "This is very good and very wonderful and I would come back and see this again."
