SEATTLE—Mary Fischer was at the Paramount Theatre Wednesday to see the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular.
She said, "Well I loved all the beautiful colors. Since I have an interest in Chinese history, it was fun to see their interpretation of what they want to share with us."
Ms. Fisher liked several themes: "There were several that I really liked and one of them was … the water lilies [and] the waterfall ['Nymphs of the Sea'], that was really lovely. The water sleeves—I liked that one. I liked the drums ['Drummers of the Tang Court'] and there were several after the intermission that were particularly enjoyable … it was interesting because my friend has a much deeper knowledge than I do … I wasn't familiar with Falun Gong so that is something I will go and learn a little more about." Two of the performances deal with the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong, a spiritual practice, in China.
Julie and Michelle Borrud were also amongst the audience.
Julie said, "My favorite part was the drums—that was amazing, the costumes were very phenomenal, and beautiful."
"The singers [had] beautiful voices and the piano player [was] amazing, the sound was great," she said. "The different dance steps [were] very unique; the combination of acrobatics and ballet [was spectacular]."
