MILAN—On April 15, the Divine Performing Arts on Tour successfully premiered in Milan. The excellent performance of the artists not only inspired and awed Western audiences but also appealed to overseas Chinese, including Mr. Ou-yang, a surgeon who has lived abroad for over seven years.
After watching the Spectacular , Mr. Ou-yang shared his feelings. "Generally speaking, it is quite good. I think Falun Gong practitioners show the spirit of Falun Gong in the form of singing and dancing. I don't have much understanding of Falun Gong, but I do not much trust the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP's) propaganda," he said.
"Judging from the artistic form, I enjoyed it very much. I drove from another city to watch the performance. When it comes to art, I am a layman, but many things in the performance strike a strong responsive chord with me. I feel very good," he added.
Traditional Chinese dancing was performed with success on the western stage, telling westerners of ancient Chinese culture, history, and mythology in the form of dancing. Mr. Ou-yang said, "This is a novel way to introduce ancient Chinese culture because it has never or only rarely been present in the evening shows in China. I think it's quite good. Audiences were impressed with the significance and wonder of the performance. It is really amazing."
As an overseas Chinese who could enjoy programs about ancient Chinese culture on the western stage, Mr.Ou-yang was very touched. He said, "Because I have stayed here for seven years, I have a better understanding of Italian people, and I could feel western audiences quite enjoy it."
Mr. Ou-yang expressed his thankfulness for the performers. He said, "The Spectacular performers work hard. I feel thankful to them for bringing us such wonderful programs. I am 41, very familiar with Guan Guimin's singing; I came here mainly to listen to his songs. Though it has been over twenty years since I last listened to his songs, his singing voice remains as brilliant and resounding as before."

He continued, "Falun Gong emphasizes Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. I have often seen Falun Gong practitioners outside the Chinese consulate in Milan. It appears that they do such a thing without being paid, and for their own beliefs. I was much moved by their behavior. Though I have not contacted them, from my viewpoint, I am indeed in favor of Falun Gong practitioners although I have never practiced Falun Gong. It is also because I dislike the CCP's ruling policies that I have kept living abroad."
At the end of the interview, he told the reporter that he felt sorry for not being able to have his photo published because his wife is a member of the British royal family. The reporter showed respect for his opinion. Mr. Ou-yang said that if the Divine Performing Arts tours Milan next year, he would surely come to enjoy the performance.
