AUCKLAND, New Zealand—A responsive audience greeted the Chinese Spectacular on its final night at Auckland's ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre. Soprano Huang Piju and the drumming acts were the biggest crowd-pleasers.
Rose Gils, a retired classical music teacher from Auckland, was thrilled with the show.
"This is absolutely amazing. The music was amazing, the drumming, the chopsticks, everything was just…. They do so much, it's so clever. The last part with the drumming was amazing."
Gils' young grand-daughter, Grace, was equally impressed. "I thought it was really, really cool, and amazing costumes," she said.
'Spectacular' 'very articulate'
Peter, who attended the show with his partner Cynthia, said the Spectacular was "very articulate—the dancing, the colours and the way it was executed. My first exposure to this sort of thing."
Colin Myers said Drummers of the Tang Court" and Victory Drums" were his favourite acts. However, he enjoyed the entire show.
"I think it's first class. It shows the daintiness of the dancing from the girls and is also very professional. I thoroughly recommend it."
'It goes right through you'
Eileen Jackson attended the show with her husband Ken and daughter Paula.
"I thought it was great, spectacular. The whole thing was very professional, the clothing, the beautiful colours — totally amazing," said Eileen.
"I thought it was very spectacular too," said Ken.
"I liked the drumming," said Paula. "It goes right through you."
