AUCKLAND, New Zealand—The Chinese Spectacular's drum performance was hailed as "brilliant," "perfectly balanced" and well timed.

Andrew Colgan who is a manager for Warehouse Stationary attended the final Auckland show on Saturday April 19, he said "My mum and dad have Chinese background strong Chinese culture, I think [the show] it is really good, good costumes and it's a good representation … I haven't seen much of that." He said, the 'Drummers of the Tang Court' "…are brilliant …it is perfectly balanced and [the] timing, they obviously work hard. They are very disciplined—even their facial expressions, it is very unique."

Martial arts techniques blend into the performance called the 'Loyalty of Yue Fei'; this dance tells the story of one of China's most famous military generals. In his comments, Mr Colman said "The martial arts technique is very well done and balanced. I've done martial arts before, and looking at that, its pretty scary what they do; it is beautiful. That's what I see, timing and technique—a good team!"

The 'Nymphs of the Sea' impressed Mr Colgan's companion Mel, she liked the shiny costumes and the water.

The drums, she said, kept her happily laughing, and she appreciated the softer parts of the performance, too: "I do piano and I can see aspects of my piano, you know, the controlled practice. I am just enjoying it."

Scheer Delight

Roger Scheer, who works in residential sales, attended the Chinese Spectacular afternoon show Saturday April 19, and was delighted.

When asked if he had a favourite part, Mr. Scheer said, "Well, I'm quite overwhelmed, I'm just digesting what I have seen, I think. I can't pinpoint, I think the cup [bowl] dance for me was a highlight really. I am very, very impressed about the quality of dance and the message."
