MUNICH, Germany–On its opening night at Munich's Prince Regent Theater on Friday, the Chinese Spectacular left a deep impression on the audience.
This includes Maria Pföhler, a marketing assistant, who said she enjoyed the variety and diversity the show offered. "One can see the different traditions. They performed something from Mongolia and something from Tibet. One can see certain realms and it is an eye opener. The show is unbelievably diverse and the performers are very interesting," said Pföhler.
"It was a harmonious show, very balanced. The dancing, music and the singers, among them a tenor and a soprano, I enjoyed that very much. I especially liked the blaze of colors of the costumes, the strong expression of the dances through the movements and the entire performance, as well as the moderation of each program."
Pföhler said the moderation was very helpful and that the hosts conveyed a certain wit and charm and that was very attractive.
She also said she was impressed with several pieces, including Nymphs of the Sea, the drumming acts and the Mongolian Bowl Dance.
"The water nymphs were a relaxing act for me. Then I enjoyed the ballet with the ladies carrying the tea cups on their heads. I especially liked that program because it expressed the discipline of the culture extremely well. I found their body control and discipline very beautiful.
"Furthermore, I liked the drummers a lot, and I also enjoyed things from several areas. The drummers showed, during their performance, complete control of the instruments and I liked that as well. I also thought that the performance of the lady with the Erhu was really awesome. Everything was somehow enchanting and each piece in itself and in some different way was mesmerizing. It entailed several very beautiful highlights."
Pföhler said she would definitely attend next year's show "because I truly enjoyed it."
"It has brought this country closer to me in a very positive way. One is then not as limited as if one only perceives what the media presents and what one knows from restaurants. This has expanded my horizon quite a bit. It is absolutely recommendable."
She explained that it was the show's "diversity and balance" that expanded her horizon.
"Every country has dancing and traditions but I did not know that this dance performance is really so great and in the range of ballet."
"Our experience with China is that it appears in a rather disciplined form. Now however, one can see the artistic and more playful as well as completely other side of it. That is a strong contrast. Even with trifles it conveys inner expression. If one compares this with the Thai dance form, they also use their fingers and wrists. This here is about a show, in the first place an entertaining show, but with a very strong cultural background. It is fascinating and graceful from the costumes to the performers."
