MUNICH, Germany—Astrid Schorn, a marketing agent at the Munich Trade Fair Centre, and her colleague Andy Neumann, attended the premiere of the Chinese Spectacular at Munich's Prince Regent Theatre on Friday evening.
Although they regretted that the renowned cultural show did not take place at the Trade Fair Centre, they had to admit that "this show truly fits into this theatre — old traditional Chinese culture in a traditional theater."
Neumann said he enjoyed every aspect of the show, from the dancing to the costumes to the choreography.
Schorn agreed. "I also enjoyed it very much. It is very different from the European culture, the colors, everything is simply fascinating. The Chinese culture differs from the European one. It is something totally different."
"It is the first time that I have watched something so fascinating," she added.
Neumann was especially impressed with the drumming acts, "Drummers of the Tang Court" and "Victory Drums," while Schorn favored "Watersleeves."
Regarding efforts by the Chinese embassies in Germany and other countries to interfere with the shows or have them cancelled, Schorn voiced her protest.
"When something so good is being conveyed, then it should be conveyed. We are in Germany a free country. Here everybody can express their opinion. That is art and it should not be prohibited. Art is free. Art should remain free."
They both said they will definitely came again next year to see the 2009 Divine Performing Arts show and will also recommend it to their friends.
