AUCKLAND, New Zealand—There is no need to know much about Chinese culture to enjoy the Chinese Spectacular, said Sofia Yamaguchi, a flight attendant, who attended the final show at the ASB Theatre on Saturday.

Ms Yamaguchi said the Spectacular was a very good performance for those who would like to experience authentic traditional Chinese culture.

"The show is really great—especially if you don't know about the Chinese—this is a very good performance for the people to experience the Chinese culture. It is like combining religion and history and the Chinese legends. Yes, so I think for the Chinese we feel …touched and I think it is very good to let people who do not know our culture. It is a very, very good experience especially for Europeans who do not know anything about Chinese [culture]."

"I would say [the performances are] very professional, yes, and they respect the legends, they present the legends so good. And also I say the dress, the beautiful dress, yes. [It is] really beautiful on the stage."

The 'Loyalty of Yue Fei' was one of her favourites. The dance tells the story of one of China's most famous military generals Yue Fei, who as a young man was tattooed on the back. His mother tattooed four Chinese characters reading "serve the country loyally."

"That's all the history we learnt when we were little so I was very touched with that," Yamaguchi said.

The performances combine history with spirituality and Chinese legends, she said, and Chinese people would find the show really touching.

Ms Yamaguchi said that there was a deeper message in the show, referring to performances that depict the persecution of Falun Gong.

"The people should know about it, so this way it is like art to present the truth to the world. One of the [parts] of the show is about the compassion, the three words [Truthfulness Compassion Forbearance] I think the dancers are great. I can feel what they want to tell me and I had tears in my eyes and I said 'Oh my god'."

"This is a beautiful religion and they want to be accepted…I think they want the world to be beautiful, just like a Christian, like other religion, they want the world to be a better world and people to be better people."

"I am hoping that justice will arrive one day."
