AUCKLAND, New Zealand—Carole Vaughan surprised her partner Ron and son Ben and bought tickets to the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular in Auckland on Saturday the 19th April.
And the three of them had a wonderful experience.
"It was a treat, I saw it advertised at the beginning of the year, and I thought I just want to take them on a cultural experience. It was a big surprise, a way to say thank you, for all the work that they do for me," said Carole a business woman.
Ron who is a lighting engineer said, "It was a surprise for me, my partner here, took me on a journey tonight, I didn't know where I was going. It was a treat, Ben and I didn't know where we were going we just had to drive the car, and we ended up here, which was wonderful."
And this lucky family each had a special part of the show they connected with.
"It was great, it was wonderful, very colourful and it showed a lot of the culture and tradition, gone back thousands of years. I enjoyed the drumming probably the most. I'm a drummer myself, so I enjoyed the drumming," said Ron.
'I loved the costumes and the dancing was very graceful, very acrobatic, I really enjoyed it. A very good show,' said Carole.
"The power, the whole power that came from the whole show, that was very exuberant, a lot of emotional power, a lot of singing power, especially with the opera, that was quite amazing the opera," said Ben a student from Auckland Grammar.
The Chinese civilization going back hundreds and thousands of years, shone through very clearly in the show. Ben said, "The whole thing was very spiritual; still there was a lot of emotion expressed, especially the acrobatics very light.. the movement of the body language."
'I thought the energy was fantastic, and the gymnastics ability was fantastic, I'm not surprised because I know the Chinese people are like that, very acrobatic, so it was great," said Ron.
'A lot of the spirituality came through for me. At the beginning like coming down from the heavens, and spreading out and that, and just the gentleness, "said Carole.
Ron's favorite part was the drumming while Carole thought the "Forsynthia in Spring, " the flower that welcomes the spring was great.
"I'd have to say when the teenagers entered the temple, and they dreamt that the statues came alive, and they danced, and it was quite emotional," said Ben. It shows that we should show respect for our spiritual worlds."
