AUCKLAND, New Zealand—The heartfelt messages and the beauty of the performances in the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular have been moving the hearts of people in Auckland, as it has with people all over the world. Many have been moved to tears.
Human rights lawyer Carole Curtis and her granddaughter attended the matinee performance in Auckland's ASB theatre on Saturday April 19. Carole shared her feelings with The Epoch Times after the show. Both Carole and her granddaughter were very moved by many of the performances.
She said: "It's very, very moving, very powerful … both of us cried at one point — very moving indeed. I think it was a very god job."
Carole attends many performances and particularly enjoys opera, so, not surprisingly, tenor Hong Ming singing 'Rest in Knowing' left a lasting impression on her. Both the resonance of his voice and the lyrics moved her to tears.
The lyrics mention a "/soul-stirring contest of good and evil/though tragedy befalls us, I still strive to help others/right and wrong must be told apart".
When asked which was her favourite performance, she said: "Two parts for me. I am crazy about opera, so the tenor [Hong Ming] was mind-blowingly beautiful. Even without the words, it would have blown me away, because he was so fantastic. But then when you read behind what he is actually singing about and the pain of it, I was absolutely overwhelmed at that point."
The second performance that had a powerful effect on Carole was 'The Power of Awareness', where a mother and child were spreading the message of Falun Dafa when they were attacked by policemen. One by one the people around them stood up to protect them. She said: "That piece that they did with the mother and the child and how finally everybody else stopped what was happening and that was a wonderful, very powerful message, I thought."
Summing up what she would take away from the show, Carole said: "There was the overall message to me about loving and caring for each other and to keep on doing that. And to keep on caring for people even if they are not caring for you. That seemed to me the strongest message. It was wonderful. I really enjoyed it."
