AUCKLAND, New Zealand—"Faultless" and "fantastic" are how a former gymnast described the Chinese Spectacular after attending the last show in New Zealand at Auckland's ASB Theatre on Saturday.

Erica, who preferred to only give her first name, has done rhythmic gymnastics since an early age. She said that she can tell from the postures that the performances are simply "amazing."

"Even a lot of things in rhythmic [gymnastics], they said a lot of moves, gymnastic moves, have come from Chinese culture and there were little bits that I could see that were coming through in the sports," she said.

When asked about her favourite performance, Erica said that she enjoyed the drum performances, such as "Drummers of the Tang Court" and "Victory Drums," which she called "effective."

The performances use the thundering sound of drums, which would sometimes accompany soldiers into battle for relaying commands and boosting morale. Drums also play an important role in celebrations and evoking inner strength and perseverance.

"Beautiful, the guys were incredibly strong and all of them were just fantastic dancers, fantastic singers and faultless really."

Erica said the moving graphics projected onto the stage backdrop assisted in expressing the themes and songs.

"You could tell there was a topic to every act which I thought was really, really good. It came through really clear."
