AUCKLAND, New Zealand—The Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular delighted audience members at the matinee session on Saturday April 19 at the ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre.
During intermission, retired housewife Janet Somerville spoke about her favourite performances and what she thought about the show.
"It was wonderful. The drums were fantastic." she said.
Janet particularly enjoyed the baritone, Qu Yue, who sang 'Truth Alone Sets You Free'. "He had a very deep romantic voice," she said.
Janet had never been to a Chinese show before, but her friend Jonhn had asked her to come and she was glad she did.
The performance, 'Lightness and Grace' with gentle fans flowing as smoothly as water and clouds, and 'Nymphs of the Sea', were two of the performances that Janet really enjoyed. "The costumes are beautiful…the wonderful fans," she said.
"It would be nice to go home and read the programme book," she said, to learn more about traditional Chinese culture.
"I would recommend anybody come along."
Janet's friend Jonhn Glaum also enjoyed the show and warned light-heartedly: "Don't try doing those flips at home, you will need an ambulance!"
Very Visually Pleasing

Research scientist Karla Anderson also enjoyed the show.
"It's not something I would normally come to but I'm surprised…[it is] very beautiful and colourful."
She said: "I quite like the drums and the sea nymphs."
"I guess I like the costumes and the colours."
She described the dancing as: "Very well choreographed, very visually pleasing... I guess sort of smooth."
