MUNICH,Germany—Despite interference by the Chinese Consulate, the Shen Yun Chinese Spectacular successfully entertained a Munich audience. The Chinese Consulate attempted to pressure the operations manager of the Prince Regent Theater to prevent the show.

The audience was delighted. Originally from France, Christiane Schreck now resides in Munich with her husband. "I find the gracefulness of the movements enchanting. The costumes with their blaze of colors fascinate me. [The show] indulges the senses and that is the most important thing for me," she said.

Schreck has an interest in art and commented on the difference between classical Chinese dance and European ballet, especially among male dancers. "As for the Chinese, it is more about fighting and demeanor that has a much greater energy and expressiveness than with the Europeans.

"That is impressive, this speed, this sportsmanship. One can hardly find that here, not even with modern ballet, that is different. And of course the music cannot at all be compared with ours. The women have such grace. This comes through their dainty bodies that is much more different from Europeans."

The posture of the women together with their tiny patter steps impressed Schreck, who says about Shen Yun: "I believe that has to do with their philosophy. And also the discipline that permeates everywhere—we Europeans are more lax and also probably don't have such a larger inner vision that the Asians have. What I mean is this cultural thoughtfulness as with Zen Buddhism."

Under the communist regime, the performance of this Spectacular is prohibited in China. Divine Performing Arts is based in the U.S.
