AUCKLAND, New Zealand— Radio personality and Auckland Council of Civil Liberties representative Barry Wilson says the Chinese Spectacular is a symbol of hope and peace.
"Spectacular. Quite spectacular, just the way it all came together. You can see right away why it is synonymous with Falun Gong ideals."
"It symbolizes the great moral position that the Falun Gong have."
Mr Wilson is a member of the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong and is outspoken when it comes to human rights abuses in China.
He said he particularly enjoyed 'The Risen Lotus Flower', a scene depicting the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. "I thought the prison scene was a symbol of hope and continuity. It was good."
In the scene one of the female practitioners is beaten to death by prison guards.
He said the dancing was good. "The women dancers I thought were marvelous, a symbol of peace and harmony," he said.
"I thought the drumming was powerful as well. The drumming was, it is just a perception of harmony. It's good as well."
He said he felt a sense of harmony about Falun Gong. "The harmony that they are looking for, the moral alternative that they provide to the Marxist materialism in China. That comes through in the show," he said.
"And the way I thought what was very well done was the way the songs were explained. I think that the explanation was good. There was a sense of hope about the about the songs that came through in the translation.
He was interviewed at the intermission, with his friend Percy Allison from the Poverty Action Coalition on the North Shore.
Mr Allison said the dancers were so gentle.
"So far I am just absolutely blown away," he said.
He was impressed by the 'Drummers of the Tang Court' "I want to get some for my boy scouts," he said.
He said he was also impressed by how fast the dancers could change their costumes.
