AUCKLAND, New Zealand— Present at the Oceania season finale of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular on Saturday evening April 19, was Garth Jones and his children.
Mr Jones, a technician, spoke during the intermission about how he was enjoying the show so far.
"I loved the colour, the dance and the music … visual spectacle which is why we came. I brought my children, so I am hoping that they will enjoy the dance, colour and the music, and the culture."
"I can see … spiritual comments in it. I am a Christian so I know a lot of Christians that have been persecuted in China so I understand", he said. Referring to 'The Risen Lotus Flower' which depicts a scene of Falun Gong practitioners being persecuted because of their persevering belief in the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance.
Mr Jones mentioned a few of his favourite performances so far, "The [Mongolian] Bowl Dance was absolutely stunning, and the beautiful colourful costumes, the overall spectacle, when you have a whole lot of dancers at once. I did enjoy that drum number ['Drummers of the Tang Court'], but definitely the bowl dance for the beauty of it. And the nymph dance ['Nymphs of the Sea'], the overall effect of it was stunning."
The use of classical Chinese dance techniques, authentic costume design, and the show's overall conveyance of ancient Chinese culture received praise from Mr Jones, "I can see some old traditional stuff has been brought back to people's memory - a brilliant thing to see especially, the costume and dance."
