AUCKLAND, New Zealand—Lawyer John Richards had a lot of wonderful things to say about the Divine Performing Arts' renowned Chinese Spectacular after taking in the Friday evening performance at Auckland's ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre.
"The show has been fantastic. I was just telling my Dad that I love the way the background integrates with the colours of the performance. The clothes that they're wearing makes me feel very good. It makes the whole thing much more harmonious and it's got a lot of vitality and is athletic," he said.
"I love drums and that was awesome, but all the dances have been fantastic… they're very beautiful.
"It's a very enjoyable show to watch, and there are other levels too."
When we asked Mr Richards to describe the other levels he was referring to, he said: "The need to think about one's spirituality and also the reference to Falun Gong… I think it's a good reference.
"I believe … what's happening in China is obviously very bad. For a lot of the world we only get the one part, the part that China's giving, not the part that's helping us see another side to it… to see much more beauty and harmony."
"So the whole thing is very vital. On the one hand, [it makes me] feel very comfortable with the performance and entertainment and on the other hand, it uplifts myself on a moral and spiritual level."
Mr Richards said he also saw last year's show and felt that the 2008 tour was even better.
"I saw it last year and I feel like this performance feels better than last year. Better and better, it's really good. I enjoyed last year too."
