ADELAIDE, Australia—On the afternoon of April 15, the Divine Performing Arts' Chinese Spectacular performed at the Festival Theatre in Australia's Adelaide, known as the Festival State. It attracted local residents and overseas Chinese students to attend the show. They were very happy and proud to see an overseas performance reflecting the essence of traditional Chinese culture.
Miss Deng, a Chinese student from Anhui Province of mainland China, came to watch the show with her Australian boyfriend Scott.
Miss Deng is studying economy at the University of Adelaide and she is also learning Western dance during her spare time. She and her boyfriend both enjoyed this show with enthusiasm and thought it is a very valuable to them.
She said, "This was a wonderful show expressing Chinese traditional culture in aesthetically valuable ways. I thought not only the performers but the dances conveyed rich content in traditional Chinese culture, especially the dance 'Lady in the Moon,' which was a great performance."
She added that her boyfriend, Scott is interested in different cultures, especially Chinese culture. He would often show a particular interest in Chinese stories when they could be better understood through her explanation. He believes there are many wonders and mysteries that lie in China's 5,000 years of cultural history. Scott is also learning Chinese.
Chen Min and his wife Sun Qiaona, from Jiangsu Province, came to Adelaide to study finance in 2006 and business in 2007, respectively. Chen said, "After watching the show, we felt very touched, warm and proud as if we came home." He also said, "Its artistic level was very high. There are many essential elements of traditional Chinese culture in it, and they have carefully preserved cultural authenticity in every detail."
Chen continued, "It is so rare to see a performance like this abroad, it is likely impossible to see thing like this in China." Sun Qiaona also said that the Chinese Spectacular has provided a chance for everyone, especially for Westerners and overseas Chinese people, to understand traditional Chinese culture.
