MILAN, Italy — “It showed the historical path of China, touching on the most important moments of Chinese history. The show is complete. For those who have studied Chinese culture, they can see history again in summary from its origins to today. It’s very beautiful.”
This is how Luigi Hu, a bank director, described the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular on its opening night at Milan’s Allianz Theatre on April 14.
Hu said the Spectacular resonated with him in a special way because his father was from China.
“I found the show very interesting, overall because Iīve been studying Chinese for ten years. My father is Chinese and my mother is Italian. My father died ten years ago and from then on I decided to find my roots. I started to study the language, the culture, the philosophy, the literature. I went to China to find my origins. I found the tomb of my ancestors.”
Hu also commented on the profound inner meanings embedded in the show.
“Itīs been an interesting and strong experience. In this show I found much of what I studied about Buddhism, and Falun Gong of which I read a lot. So I felt at home. Itīs been very interesting and very beautiful. I would suggest it to everybody because itīs very profound. Not only the choreography, but it also has profound meanings that can teach a lot to people.”
He said he was particularly moved by “The Risen Lotus Flower,” a depiction of a modern-day tragedy in China: the persecution of Falun Gong.
“[The performance that] I found very strong was the one about the persecution today in China against Falun Gong by the Chinese regime. This touched me a lot, but sadly it is the truth. As today it is happening also to the Tibetans and weak people.”
Hu added that the Spectacular achieved its goal of reviving China’s true traditional culture “because it touched various epochs of Chinese history, from the Yellow Emperor — from the origin of Chinese civilization — to today.
