AUCKLAND, New Zealand—David and Svetlana Parsons, originally from the Ukraine, went to see the Chinese Spectacular on Friday night April 18 at Auckland's ASB Theatre.

"I really, really enjoyed it," said Svetlana, a dressmaker who has lived in New Zealand for seven years.

"The dance with the drums ['Drummers of the Tang Court' and 'Victory Drums'] and the ladies' dances—all of them," stood out to Svetlana. She loved the rich costumes with "so much colour—all bright".

When asked to choose her favourite piece, she could not. "I think it's all beautiful... I think the costumes... look professional, interesting and all [the] details [were] so nice."

Mr Parsons, a training advisor, said the show was "spectacular... It is interesting how their philosophy... came from the heavens. It sort of opens your mind."

I Really Enjoyed It

John Griffiths, Territory Manager at Award Appliances was also impressed by the Chinese Spectacular, having worked in China for six months and seeing many performing arts shows while there. "I really enjoyed it. The performers were incredibly agile, incredibly dynamic … The costumes were brilliant…"

His favourite piece was "definitely the ['Drummers of the Tang Court' and 'Victory Drums']. Love the drummers!" Mr Griffiths said the Chinese Spectacular was slightly different to the other shows he'd seen because of the spiritual nature behind many of the dances. "The shows I've seen in China were more on historic events."

Mr Griffiths came to the show after his wife saw an advertisement. He said that he would tell "anyone else that wasn't thinking of going to see the show, [that he'd] definitely recommend going along."
