AUCKLAND, New Zealand—Friday night's (April 18) performance of the Chinese Spectacular at the ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre, included people from diverse backgrounds and professions.
Attorney Rodney Wilson, speaking about the Spectacular, said: "The theme is interesting because it has got the Chinese and English up on the thing [backdrop], and I can read some of the Chinese."
He also enjoyed the cross-cultural experiences and added: "People should be exposed to different cultures. It breaks down barriers... it broadens people's horizons... enables them to see where they and other people are coming from."
Happy to Connect with Chinese Culture
Archaeologist Beatrice Hudson and Soul Sosaia, cleaning supervisor, both really enjoyed the show.
Ms Hudson said she really liked the drumming in 'Drummers of the Tang Court' and the finale 'Victory Drums'. She also said: "I just like the co-ordination with the dance at the same time... just everything put together was good."
Mr Sosaia said he liked all the performances. "All of them, just the colour of them.
"People should see it themselves ... Come and see and experience it themselves. It was brilliant."
Mr Sosaia said he bumped into an old friend on the street earlier in the day and he just happened to have a spare ticket to the Spectacular. He said his mother is part Chinese and he was happy he had been able to connect with some of that culture.
