AUCKLAND, New Zealand—Ken Amado, a retired property investor, and his partner Marina, thought the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular got "better and better" as it progressed.

"The uniforms, the costumes were fantastic. The coordination was fantastic; the choreography was very good."

Many of the performances left deep impressions on Mr Amado, particularly the pieces titled 'Power of Awareness', 'Drummers of the Tang Court', and 'Victory Drums'. He said they were visually exciting and "had [a] basis of depth that we understood."

Mr Amado had never seen a traditional Chinese performance "identical to this". He described some of the pieces as "emotive", particularly in the second act he found the dances more expressive. For Mr Amado, the Chinese Spectacular enforced "what I already understood about the Chinese culture."
