AUCKLAND, New Zealand—New immigrant, Ms. Lee from the Chinese mainland, is a retired primary school teacher. After seeing the Spectacular at the Aotea Centre, Auckland on April 17, she said from the art perspective, the dancers are well trained and skilful.
She said the costume design is beautiful, and the backdrop, which used modern hi-tech and computer design, gave a realistic feel.
Ms Lee said she liked all the performances but was particularly impressed with the girls' 'Mongolian Bowl Dance' and the boys' dance, 'Chopsticks Zest'.
Mongolian Bowl dance is a "soft and delicate girls" dance, she said while 'Chopsticks Zest' has the beating of drumming, and also presents the masculinity of boys. These gave her a good impression, and she thought the show was great.
Ms Lee had more to say. She said she was amazed at the voices of the opera singers and the dancers saying enthusiastically, "I counted each dance program. [they have] more than 20 dancers on the stage at the same time. Their movements reflect our unique group Chinese dance. Only we Chinese people have such flair and other countries can never have the performances."
Ms. Lee said she will tell her friend how superb the dancers are and their brilliant performing skills.
