AUCKLAND, New Zealand—A Chinese artist praised the Divine Performing Arts company for carrying forward traditional culture.
Daniel Liu, who performs with the Charm troupe, was full of praise for the Chinese Spectacular after seeing the opening night in Auckland on April 17.
He said: "This special performance covers China's 5,000-year history. From the folk stories, the 'Lady of Moon' and the story of 'Yue Fei', to the growth of the Tang dynasty, the Qing court dance, and even religion, Buddhism, Falun Gong, Christianity, are all covered.
"Today, from a cultural point of view, it is very necessary from various angles to let the world understand the substance of the Chinese culture."
He added that the Divine Performing Arts group has dedicated themselves to reclaiming traditional Chinese culture.
"The group emerged as distinct art group from the ones in mainland, Taiwan, or Hong Kong groups," he said. "They grow overseas, each individual of them respect their own culture."
Mr Liu said the Divine Performing Arts Group carried "forward from the political, religious [and] social phenomena, traditional history[and] folk stories."
This "full multi-angle', approach, he said, has been "introduced to the people around the world."
He also praised the show from a technical perspective. "The stage background made the story more expressive, more appropriate and more direct," he said. "The colour is also noteworthy, and the background of the stage is in harmony with the colour of dancers' costumes."
