AUCKLAND, New Zealand—Many audience members eagerly shared their wonderment and joy on the opening night (April 17) of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular at the ABS Theatre Auckland.
Jack Smith & Gillian Rodger
"I love the drums [Drummers of the Tang Court] and the energy that the boys had on stage you know when all the boys were on stage and then when the girls came on it was so different they were so gentle, you know like gliding, it was like they were on wheels you couldn't see their feet, it was just gorgeous, beautiful, beautiful girls, wonderful. My heart is open to Chinese culture."
Bille Biel, Retired
"Beautiful water dance [Water Sleeves] that was absolutely glorious. And it had something different about it. With the extension of the sleeves, now I have never seen that before, you know… so that was very, very good."

Inderjeed Anand , a Lawyer
He thought the drums were the best in the performance because they were "quite lively."
"I'm from Punjaab, North India, we do have some dances like that in India" he explained, adding that it was his first exposure to Chinese culture: "[I]came to know about traditional dances ... different costumes. Very good. They [friends] should come and see about Chinese culture ... It's very good."
"I really like the costumes and their dancing, and their flexibility. And the rhythms, they are making different patterns. I think I liked the dance ['Mongolian Bowl Dance']
Melissa
"I think they came across as a very vibrant group of people, and very expressive, and I think we can all relate to them in some way even though we are westerners, we can relate to their emotions and the feelings that came through… that was communicated."
Jasmin Sagnhav, Marketing Director
"I think it is a very interesting culture and I'm sure there is a lot of things we can learn from it, so in that regards it is very exciting",
Damena Small, Customer Services
"I love it I love it, it is the first time I have seen something so beautiful, its really touching and I really love it, it is a lot of meaning. I like it, I like the union the family union and traditions which is hard to find nowadays in any other culture and it is a good thing that the Chinese keep it
Sue Sangster, Finance Industry
"[Spectacular] shows something of the history of China that I was not aware of and something very special, there's something very spiritual I think about the history of China, yea that I didn't know of. Well I think it's kind of spiritual it talks about the divine being and I believe in God and it talks about, to me that is God and I think that's fabulous, its just great."
Polly Wang, Dancer from China
I'm a dancer. The part of the show that I liked the best was the Chinese dancing. The thought that went into the show… the ladies dancing, the men dancing – it was all very good. Before I came to New Zealand I was a Chinese dancer. Yes, I would tell my friends to come to the show, yes, yes.
