AUCKLAND, New Zealand—For Jonathan Woodbridgebyes, manager at a New Zealand energy company, the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular was an opportunity to learn more about Chinese culture.
"I thoroughly enjoyed the show, I think it expanded my understanding of Chinese culture quite a bit," he said after watching the opening night of the show in Auckland on April 17.
Mr Woodbridgebyes also commented that he was glad the show portrayed aspects of the culture that represented the 5000-year history of China and ones that may not be shown in China today.
"I know there is a lot of persecution of Falun Gong and of any aspect of the ancient Chinese culture so I really enjoyed the fact that there was the freedom to express the ancient culture the 5000 years of history."
Mr Woodbridgebyes attended the show with his wife Melissa. She also enjoyed the performances and believed the dancers, despite being Chinese, expressed feelings that any culture could relate to.
She said: "I think they came across as a very vibrant group of people, and very expressive and I think we can all relate to them in some way even though we are Westerners. We can relate to their emotions and the feeling that came through that was communicated."
