AUCKLAND, New Zealand— Harry Tawhai and his sister Jude Huriwai attended the opening night performance of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular at the ASB Theatre at the Aotea Centre in Auckland on Thursday night April 17.

"No-one will be disappointed by the show," said Jude, who had invited her brother Harry to see the Spectacular . "I have been waiting to see the show for a month. I also look at the website … and read the reviews of their shows in Canada."

"Actually the thing that I enjoyed the most were the colours of all the costumes that not only the girls wore but also the guys," she continued.

"The drums ['Drummers of the Tang Court' and 'Victory Drums'] and some of the acrobatic things that happened, I thought they were great."

Referring to the performance of 'Forsythia in Spring' where dancers portray the blooming forsythia with frolicking movements and special handkerchiefs, Jude commented: "I saw … I think it was they twirl them on their fingers, what were they? Those cloths and the dexterity that they used is similar to how my people use the pois.["Poi" is the Maori word for "ball" on a cord.]

"And I thought the hand movements were very dexterous. [There are] some similarities in how they keep their wrists supple.

"I thought the segments of the show about Falun Gong was very pertinent to today from what has been told the persecution that Falun Gong are going through. I thought it was great that the message was getting across. It was part of the show, so excellent."

Jude's daughter also liked the performance 'Risen Lotus Flower', because it was the one which touched her the most.

Jude concluded by saying: "After watching the show you want to find out more about the culture. I think that's how I felt because it is just amazing."
