AUCKLAND, New Zealand—Terry and Helen Dare were impressed by the first Chinese Spectacular at the ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre, on Thursday night.
Mr Dare ,a Management Accountant, said he thought the show was very good. "It is really out reaching, really friendly, and making the culture quite approachable; you can watch it and enjoy it, and understand it," he said.
The performance 'Power of Awareness' left a deep impression on him. He said: "I think it was the strength of feeling truth, compassion, forbearance … It's almost like an oppressed feeling that has come out; it's bloomed."
Depicted in the performance is a mother and daughter, followers of Falun Gong, who are at a park on a warm sunny day in China to spread a message of "Truth, Compassion and Forbearance". "It looked really good. The culture has been suppressed but it is on the rise again; it is healthy. I think it is a good sign. I think it will strengthen … character."
"Really nice, really enjoying it, beautiful colours and beautiful dancing, very skilled artists and the soprano [Pi-ju Huang] was really good."
He said the drumming was "really spectacular".
Mrs Dare said the costumes were "divine" and she really enjoyed the Mongolian tea dance ['Mongolian Bowl Dance'].
"I like the Mongolian dance, the tea dance; that's my favorite, and the first one with the water … 'Nymphs of the Sea'. Yes, that was beautiful."
She said the show was excellent.
