LONDON—Detectives investigating the murder of schoolboy Rhys Jones have been given extra time to question 11 people arrested in connection with his killing.

Another suspect, arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, was released on bail.

The 22-year-old man, who has not been named, was one of 12 arrested on Tuesday in connection with the killing last August of 11-year-old Rhys in the Croxteth area of Liverpool.

The youngster was shot in the neck after returning from football practice, fuelling growing fears of rising youth crime and gang violence.

Detectives have been given a further 12 hours to question the suspects, Merseyside Police said on Wednesday.

Some of those arrested on Tuesday were re-arrests. No one has been charged.

The 12 were detained after a series of dawn raids involving more than 100 officers in the Croxteth area.

Two teenage boys aged 16 and 17 and two men aged 24 and 25 are still being held on suspicion of murder.
