MILAN, Italy—Opening night of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular attracted many to Milan's Allianz Theatre, eager to experience an evening of magnificent traditional Chinese arts and culture.
Elisa Busani from Milan, owner of Club Magica, a school which teaches Polynesian and belly dance, came to the show with five friends, all teachers. Her school has over 400 pupils from all over Italy.
Busani said she has an innate interest and deep appreciation for dance, and cultural dance in particular. In the Spectacular, she said she especially enjoyed "Nymphs of the Sea."
"I liked the water fairies performance the most. I liked it very much, the silk waves, I liked the colours, the fabrics."
Serena Ornagi, one of the dance teachers at the school, was also highly impressed.
"I think it's wonderful. I liked the stories and the drums. And the cups…" she said, referring to the "Mongolian Bowl Dance." She also enjoyed "Drummers of the Tang Court" and "Victory Drums."
Club Magica has been in operation since 1984. There are now two schools that specialise in ethnic dance. This summer, they will stage a performance at Milan's famous Teatro Carcano.
Silvia Ghedy, one of the driving forces behind Club Magica, has extensive education in different dance styles. She has been a teacher and choreographer at the school since 1991.
"We will have a show in Milan in July and we liked your show very much. We like the choreography, in particular the hands of the dancers and the music," said Ghedy.
The school has been covered by major Italian newspapers and TV, as well as gaining international exposure in Japan and Germany.
