ADELAIDE, Australia—Also at the show were friends Helen and Barbara who were both elated by the end of the performance.

"Excellent, we enjoyed it very much" said Helen and Barbara, who were accompanied by two other friends.

"Several of us have been to China. We've seen performances in China but they were a different style, more gymnastic. This was more a dance performance than the gymnastics." For Helen, what distinguished this show from others was "the beautiful costumes and colours".

'Nymphs of the Sea' was especially appealing to both ladies.

"Beautiful. I also liked the Mongolian Chopsticks ['Chopstick Zest']" said Helen.

Very Philosophical

Among the audience were University Professor Gray and his wife Jenny, a retired teacher. They enjoyed the show very much.

Professor Gray said: "It was very good. I'm enjoying it very much." And Jenny added: "It's beautiful and I'm really enjoying it."

Their favourite performances on the night were the drums, 'Drummers of the Tang Court' and the finale, 'Victory Drums'. Professor Gray added that he also enjoyed 'Nymphs of the Sea'.

'Water Sleeves' was one of the performances that Jenny particularly liked, saying: "… the one in pink. I like that because it's very different. European dancing doesn't do anything like that with the elongated material."

Jenny also enjoyed the singing. She had seen Chinese Opera once and commented: "I didn't like that at all, because the sounds were very foreign. But the sounds of this one I enjoyed."

Professor Gray also commented on the lyrics of the songs performed by the baritone, tenor and soprano. "Very interesting, very different from western letters. Very philosophical."
