ADELAIDE, Australia—Xiao He, an exchange student from Guangdong in mainland China, has been in Australia for 3 months and was able to enjoy her freedom to see the Spectacular at the Festival Centre Theatre.

Xiao He, who will spend one year in high school in Adelaide said, "The Chinese Spectacular presented the audience with the traditional Chinese stories and myths. The classical Chinese music touches people's heart. It is special."

While she liked all the performances, some sections of the show had particular appeal.

"Of all the Chinese classical dances, I like Bowl Dance ['Mongolian Bowl Dance'] best, because it's the most difficult, I think. I have seen from TV this sort of dances before, but most of them are segments. Not like this (dances throughout the whole show).

"Today I feel contented," she said.

"In terms of the costumes, Xiao He liked the long sleeves in 'Water Sleeves'. " The movements are tidy and orderly, integrated, imposing. It shows the gentleness of oriental ladies," she said.

Xiao He said she had told her family about going to the show and now watching it was making her a little homesick. The father of the home stay family, Tom, said "It's a good experience for her. It's an entertainment. We like Chinese very much."

Tom thought the stage setting was very beautiful, and the performers did a great job. "I like the drummers most. Drums are instrument with ethnic characteristics, and are used by many nations and ethnic groups. Different drums manifest different characteristics, with different drumming skills.

The Tang Dynasty Drums were exciting, and it incorporated with dancing, showing the spectacular scenes of the war." Xiao He praised the 'Nymphs of the Sea' very much. "The usage of the material of the fan is wonderful. This dance is very impressive. We have not seen anything so creative", he said.
