ADELAIDE, Australia—The Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular performed its final show in Australia on Tuesday night to a full house at Adelaide's Festival Theatre.
For Charmaine Pfitzner and Leonie Westbrook, the evening was one of beauty in many respects.
"It was a Chinese Spectacular, it was fascinating, beautiful," said Charmaine.
"I thought it was amazing," said Leonie. "The costumes were beautiful, and the dancing was beautiful."
"It was a beautiful message," added Charmaine. "I loved it, absolutely. Respecting other peoples' cultures—I believe it should be a universal belief within all religions, and not only religions, but just a universal value in general, for humanity."
"I like how they immerse their message about unity and harmony within the actual performance itself ... they emphasised it toward the end."
Leonie, a jeweller, particularly enjoyed the fan dancing. "I think the fan dancing, the fans were beautiful; and I really liked the green fans, that dance was very elegant and very beautiful."
The Yin and Yang Element
Charmaine, an occupational therapist, appreciated the yin and yang nature of the performances.
"I love the incorporation of the drums as well, because it made it that bit more powerful, and it had an almost yin and yang element to the whole performance ... the yin of the beautiful female dancers, and the yang of the drums."
"I think the show ... how can I put it, it was more like a ballet—I know it's not classical ballet—but it's more like a ballet which I didn't expect, but I love that element to it. So, I think what I learnt was that there was this driving performing arts in America, I assumed that they couldn't perform a lot of that in China itself ... It's lovely that this is happening now."
The Chinese Spectacular continues its tour in Auckland, New Zealand with shows on Thursday through Saturday.
