CANBERRA, Australia—Currently playing in Canberra, the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular has been wowing audiences with its unique portrayal of China's ancient culture and values.
Mr. Law, a 20-year-old student from mainland China who is majoring in painting at an Australian university, attended the Spectacular on April 12. He was surprised that the show was so different from anything he had seen at home.
"It is marvelous, very fresh; I feel I am just like a westerner, have never seen a show with so much (Chinese) historical content. It is totally different from the Spring Festival Evening Show in mainland China," said Law.
Law said the Spring Festival Evening Show has never had historical or religious content, while on the contrary the Spectacular presents traditional Chinese culture.
"I don't understand, we had been paying respect to Gods and burning incense for thousands of years, why the communist party classified it as superstitious overnight," said Law.
Law said he especially enjoyed the first program "Descent of Celestial Kings" because of its religious ideology, and "Nymphs of the Sea" for its elegance.
He added that "the colors of the costume are so bright and eye-catching. They are all traditional eastern colors, such as peach and bright blue. Although I don't know music well, I am in awe. The dance movements are also highly skilled."
