BUCHAREST, Romania —"I liked it, another world. I think it's marvelous–perfect," was how Romanian actress Carmen Ionescu described the Chinese Spectacular, which played at the National Theater in Bucharest on January 7 and 8.
Ionescu, who has performed in a variety of productions at the National Theatre, is quite familiar with professional stage productions, having played a role in the musical "Chicago" with Kathrine Zeta-Jones. She has also performed in various television shows.
"I haven't words for [the Spectacular ]. I know people of China and their education and…it's special, special…perfect, perfect," she said.
Ionescu also expressed her appreciation for the show's costuming and technical qualities.
"The costumes and the backdrop and all…you can understand the story. The man who translated, without him [it's hard to follow] what is happening.
"They are perfect artists. I loved it very much."
She said there was no comparison between the Spectacular and a Chinese show she saw during the Chinese New Year. "Different — [this is] much better because I feel they are classical dancers."
"The actors too, their faces are very expressive."
