CANBERRA, Australia—Brothers Mike and Peter Holland attended the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular for the last show in Canberra.
"I thought it was pretty, very peaceful, very peaceful culture, very colourful," said Mike, who is a writer. His favourite acts were 'Mongolian Bowl Dance', 'Lightness and Grace, and the first act 'Descent of the Celestial Kings' He said he enjoyed "The tea bowls, the fans, and the opening sequence when the curtains first went up."
One of the dances, 'The Risen Lotus Flower' portrayed three women jailed in China for their belief in the Falun Gong spiritual discipline. Mike commented that a message from the show was that "Falun Gong are treated very, very badly". "I think China is a beautiful, magnificent country, with a rich history, a lot of a lot of wonder and magic, but a lot of terrible injustices happening there," he said.
"I would be interested to know, I don't know why they [Falun Gong] are considered a threat … because from what i have heard is that it is a very peaceful meditation. So I don't know why they are persecuted."
Peter, a computer programmer described the Chinese Spectacular as "beautiful, very beautiful to look at." "It has a beautiful innocence about it if you like," he added.
