CANBERRA—"I've been to productions around the world, and this is world class," said Jane Wallace, after watching the Saturday show of the Chinese Spectacular .
"The costuming, the choreography, I mean it's got classical ballet, it's got classical Chinese dance, it's got acrobatics, it's got the drums, it's got sopranos and baritones," Ms Wallace, a Jehovah's Witness, added.
"Oh, brilliant, 'spectacular' is the best word for it. It's beautiful, absolutely beautiful," she said of the costumes.
When asked what feedback she could give on the singers, she answered: "They're first class. And all the techno work at the backdrop and the translation, it's excellent, it's beyond my expectations. I didn't think it would be this good."
"I really like the drummers, that was fantastic. Well, their strength, masculinity. It's all very ... it's world class, this production, world-class."
Ms Wallace's favourite part was 'The Loyalty of Yue Fei', she explained, with tears in her eyes.
"I was really touched by the one with the old mother and the boy."
"I've got a son, and he and I have been through a lot. It just reminded me of that. And then about the persecution that goes on there," she said, overcome with emotion.
"Extremely spectacular, and I was crying. That part about the young boy and the mother tattooing, and the persecution—I know a bit about it, not a lot. It's just really sad what governments do to people. China's got a lot to answer for. It's persecuted lots of people for lots of years."
