CANBERRA, Australia—"It's great," said arts law graduate Hugh Smith after seeing the Chinese Spectacular at the Canberra Theatre Saturday on April 12.
"I've never seen any Chinese dance before, but it's really good.
"There is more movement and more colour than I would have thought. I mean, I knew it was going to be those things, but not as much, so it's great."
Mr Smith, who works in a legal firm in Canberra, said there were a number of surprises for him in the show.
"I suppose the numbers of performers on the stage. I don't go to that much dance—mostly Spanish flamenco. Actually seeing this many performers on stage is great."
Although he liked all the performances, he did confess to a few favourites.
"I definitely liked the water nymphs one ['Nymphs of the Sea']. That was probably my favourite. All of them were good. I mean, the drumming was great and the story of the guy that has to shoot the suns down."
The Spectacular had tweaked his interest in Chinese dance, he said, and he would be encouraging others to go and see it.
"Most of the stuff I see is live theatre, but this is something I will see a bit more of in future.
"I would recommend they [my friends] definitely have to see it. I would recommend it to my parents too. They were asking me: 'Is it any good?'"
