CANBERRA, Australia—Timothy Stephens, manager of the restaurant at Parliament House in Canberra, took time out to see the matinee session of the Spectacular at the Canberra Theatre on Saturday April 12.
Mr Stephens had found out about it through friends and television advertising and said he was glad he had come to see the show.
"The show is very lovely; I am really enjoying it," he said. "Very spectacular, very pretty costumes; they look really spectacular and seen in mass formation is something the Chinese do very well."
Mr Stephens said he really liked the drummers and 'Nymphs of the Sea', and noted the digital effects on the backdrop.
"[The backdrop] is really interesting. Seeing the special effects they can use, I am assuming that it is computer animated – the stuff at the back − it is very interesting and adds another dimension to it," he said.
He also enjoyed the music. "[The music] is really nice, very pleasant. He liked the singers. "I thought the idea of putting the words up behind on the screen was very good as well."
Shaun Raphael, a student at TAFE, also saw the matinee show and was equally glad that he had done so. "The show was very good. It was very well done.
"I like the drummers. I was very impressed with the drummers and some of the kung fu and some of the things that they put on the stage."
Mr Raphael said he enjoyed the music and felt it gave him an insight into Chinese culture.
"The music was fine and the words help a little bit. And once you start watching it, you start to pick it up and understand.
"This is basically Chinese music; it is their philosophy and the way they do things."
