CANBERRA, Australia—Panta Rei, a dance teacher and choreographer, said she was very impressed with the dance movements of 'Ladies of the Manchu Court', performed by dancers wearing traditional raised shoes.

"That was fascinating because I was just thinking that it was very clever the way they walk and made movements at the same time," she said after Canberra's opening show on Friday night, April 11. "That was very impressive. It reminded me a little bit of the court dances of Louis XIV, you know, that sort of thing — the music too."

"The dancers really express the story," she said. "I think [the show] is very professional. For me, it's very good. For someone else, go and see and make your own impression."

'Absolutely Wonderful'

Leanne, a box office worker at the Canberra Theatre, came to see the Spectacular as a regular audience member and said it was "beautiful, really comforting and inspiring."

"The whole spectacular show, it is really a Chinese spectacular," Leanne said. "Really. It is the colour and it really gives you a great feeling to watch it.

"Oh, I loved it, especially the last performance. The tenor - he was wonderful, absolutely wonderful.

"A wonderful feeling from the dancing and the singing and the whole show is just wonderful. Every one should come and see it."

'It Was Amazing!'

Elizabeth Arnold, a receptionist, said her overall impression of the Spectacular was one of colour, vibrancy and energy.

"The colour, the vibrancy and just the energy, it was just really, really wonderful.

"Especially the energy. You could see that every single dancer was putting the whole heart and soul into it and it was really enjoyable to watch.

"It felt really real and not forced at all. A lot of the time when you go and see a ballet or something, you can tell that they really are just acting and here that didn't come across. You could just see that they all love it and enjoy what they were doing — Really spectacular."

Ms Arnold said she most liked the 'Drummers of the Tang Court'. "Oh, I would love to see that again. It was fantastic! It was amazing! The energy in that dance is unbelievable," she said.

She also liked the dimension added to the show by the digital backdrop.

"That was fantastic because you could really follow along with it and understand what they were singing about, so [that]brought a completely new level to it," she said.
