CANBERRA, Australia—Michelle and Ben Hamlin 'just loved' the Spectacular when they attended the premier night at the Canberra Theatre on April 11.
Michelle, who works in communications, said: "[It was] very beautifully done, the dancing technique and everything."
Ben, who works in the health field, said it was "very graceful". He loved the drums, but was most taken with the sense of ancient cultural traditions in the show.
"What I love about it is the tradition. Australia doesn't have that sort of tradition and that's the first thing I thought when the first act came out. I was thinking about how Chinese culture can go and interpret dance for hours, and they've got a story with all their dances."
Both Ben and Michelle said they had learned good things about Chinese culture from the show. "The whole understanding, you know, the cleansing and the truth sets you free. It's in harmony," said Michele.
Ben added: "And if you die for doing something that you believe in, your soul goes to rest. I thought that was great. That was good."
Ben explained that the Spectacular was different to any other shows he had seen.
"This is totally different. This is telling a cultural story of actual truth, while the others are just a written story told by fiction, told by theatre."
"So it's got more of a … I don't know how to say it. I mean, both are passionate, but one's got a more of a meaningful passion because it actually has been created.
"It feels like it came out the right way," Ben said of the Spectacular.
