Kaohsiung Audience Highly Praise 'Chinese Spectacular'

KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan—The curtain closed to roaring applause from the audience after the third performance of the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular in Kaohsiung, Taiwan on March 6, 2008. Among the theater-goers were many high-ranking government officials and artists.

According to Ms. Guo, a ticket director in Kaohsiung, the ticket center continuously received calls from counties in the mainland China, including Tainan City and Jiayi County, to book tickets. Some people have exhausted all possible means to purchase tickets. One mainlander said he will fly in Taiwan to watch the performance. This mainlander said his friend told him the The Spectacular was more interesting than the famous Broadway show Cats . All tickets for the Saturday showing were already sold out by Thursday.

Yang Qiuxing, a Kaohsiung County magistrate, gave a thumbs up and kept on saying "Terrific!" after watching the show.

Cai Wude, the chief of Kaohsiung Building Bureau and his wife watched the show together. He repeatedly praised the show, saying that he felt it was very brilliant and was "more than he had expected." Chief Cai said, "I have not seen such a high-standard, soul-touching show in a long time."

Zhou Pingde, the former national policy advisor for the Presidential Palace & advisor for Kaohsiung Chinese Medical Association said, "The Spectacular is really of high international standards. Every piece is very wonderful. The Divine Performing Arts has done something highly significant for improving social morals, and the effects are immediate. It is very commendable and indeed extremely meaningful."

Cai Shuyuan, the conductor of Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra, said in an excited voice, "Once the curtain went up for the first program, Descent of the Celestial Kings, my scalp began to tingle, my heart began racing, and my body felt electric. I have never had such a feeling before. It is too amazing."

Cai also felt that the perfect and seamless combination of music and dancing gave her a new outlook.

After watching the Spectacular , Dr. Chen Yangyi, dean of the Oceanography College at Zhongshan University said, "The whole program presented Chinese culture from a benevolent angle. After seeing the show, my soul has been purified and my outlook is different now."
