VIENNA, Austria—A man working for the diplomatic service and his school-aged daughter agreed to share their impressions of the Chinese Spectacular, presented at Vienna's City Hall Performance venue, the Stadthalle.

"That with the drums," the girl said, she would not mind seeing again. She takes African drum lessons every Monday and commented, "Playing African drums means to hold the drum between the legs and using your hands to elicit the rhythmic sounds, and not use a stick."

She added that she also liked the 'Mongolian Bowl Dance' where the dancers have cups on their heads.

When questioned about the difference between, for instance, European piano music and this evening's performance, she mused that what she had heard this evening seemed from a higher realm, and said she would like to recommend the show to her friends.

Her father commented that the two songs were "not bad at all".

"It is interesting to make a comparison in the style of the singers—not only musically but also compositionally. The difference is noticeable in harmony and melodic style, something interesting for me to observe," he said.

"I had intended to become a musician and play piano. Living in Vienna provides ample opportunity for classics. We often attend the opera, the theater, and concerts. I have no clue who the [Spectacular] composers are and where all this material originated, though it is interesting to note the Western influence in all pieces, and they contain many pleasant tonal qualities and harmonies."

He also enjoyed the dances, "especially the opening scenes, and also the war dances with the tattooed scene—those were quite interesting."

After the show in Vienna, the Spectacular will play in Bratislava on Sunday, moving on to Prague for more shows next week. A total of 35 shows will be seen in 14 European countries.
