VIENNA—Captivating audience members yet again with its tour across Europe, Divine Performing Arts held its first showing of the Chinese Spectacular in Vienna at the Vienna Stadthalle on Thursday, March 6.
Reiner Fuchsbichler, a software engineer, attended the show with his wife, Birgit Fuchsbichler. "I think it was a very great show, it was really fantastic," said Reiner.
Reiner said that he had heard about the show on the Internet and had decided to come. "I was really looking forward to the show and was full of expectations. The show fulfilled all of them and much more," said Reiner. "It's nice to even for those not familiar with Chinese culture."
"I think the choreography and the costumes are very nice and easy to understand. The fans, the water (referring to the dance 'Nymphs of the Sea') really was beautiful."
Birgit added, "It was a perfect mix between the different styles and artists, and I'm really looking forward to when it comes back again next year. Maybe it will be a different show with new artists and new programs, but I hope it's as great as this one."
Reiner mentioned two segments of the show—"The Risen Lotus Flower" and "The Power of Awareness"—which were about human rights and resilience in the face of the Chinese Communist Party's persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. He said, "I think it's not right for the Chinese government to suppress culture: 'You aren't allowed to do this, you aren't allowed to do that.' Things should be separate. State is state, belief is belief. They are two different things."
Also attending the show was an employee from the Austrian Environmental Agency who said, "I liked it very much. It's really great. I think it's a little like being in ancient times, and somehow, it's a bridge between Chinese and European culture. The music was a little bit European and a little bit Chinese."
"The dances are so beautiful and elegant, and the dances with stories are also easy to understand. The music, the costumes, and the backdrop are all great," he said.
