TAINAN, Taiwan—uang Bingwen, a calligrapher, and practitioner of Taichi for many years, was highly impressed with the Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular which he attended March 1 in Tainan.
Huang's daughter learns Chinese classical dance and he often takes her to watch similar dance performances.
"Normally, what we saw before are sort of like folk dances, but this performance is very unique," he said.
"The dancers' bodies look like they are as light as floating clouds and as smooth as flowing water."
Huang thinks the Spectacular displays divine culture and manifests the techniques of classical Chinese dance. He said the performers' movements were so elegant and light that they seemed to be "out of this world."
"The dancers' poetic quality and dance techniques are reminiscent of the movements of Buddhas, Taoists and Gods, and convey a higher and deeper meaning," he said.
"They not only convey the truthfulness and kindness from their inner self, but also make the audience feel such a peaceful atmosphere through the performances, and at the same time reveal their solemn nature."
Accomplished in Chinese calligraphy and painting, Huang believes Chinese art has extremely high artistic value whether it is in calligraphy, painting, or other types of art.
"The Spectacular is similar. Sometimes, it portrays very bright beauty, while at other times it displays the kind of beauty that is reminiscent of the remote past." Huang added that the manifestation of Chinese art tends to be reserved in spirit, and "we can see that same spirit is emanated from the performers, just like the name of the artists—Divine Performing Arts. They have perfectly and flawlessly portrayed themselves with an extremely high level as an artistic company."
Mr. Huang also talked about the music of the Spectacular, "The music has both oriental and western elements, but feel very harmonious. It is very well-done, and has proven itself to be a very successful show."
