Li Cai-e is one of the most famous dancers in Taiwan. Ms. Li studied European-influenced modern dance in Japan and has dedicated her life to dancing since the 1940s.
After seeing the Chinese Spectacular in Kaohsiung, Ms. Li said, "The Divine Performing Arts has showed the art of strength and beauty to the audience. Every posture and jump is so wonderful; we can tell that they have cultivated themselves very well. I was really carried away by the splendid performances, especially the drumming scenes. It was very powerful. I felt like I was back to my teenage years. I am 83 now."
Ms. Li said that it is not easy for these young overseas Chinese to carry traditional Chinese culture forward into the future. She had high praise for the dancers' dancing skills and body movements. She said, "They are really wonderful and magnificent. I can feel their great dedication, and their performances really touch the bottom of my heart. I sincerely admire their choreographers." She praised the choreographers' talents in harmoniously combining tradition and innovation.
When asked about the impact of the Divine Performing Arts' global tour show on modern society, Li Cai-e said, "I believe everybody might have the same sentiment as mine: that people can retrieve their memories and appreciate the virtues of truthfulness, compassion and tolerance."
To encourage these dancers, Ms. Li added, "Never stop, just as I never did. I hope that they will be able to keep up with their great work, and never give up. I believe all the obstacles can be overcome, and hope that they can come back again next year."
Although Ms. Li is 83 years old now, she still looks brilliant and her passion for dancing is unabated. With her reputation and dedication for dancing, she was invited to perform at the "Nagoya Dance Showcase" in Nagoya, Japan on January 26, 2008.
