TAMPERE, Finland — Where in Finland can you get a taste of 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture in one entertaining evening? The answer is at Tempere Hall, where the Divine Performing Arts is currently presenting its renowned Chinese Spectacular.
Among those who attended the March 31st show was economist Kirsti Pollanew.
"I really liked it. I like a lot of Chinese history and culture. I like everything. I like the music a lot, especially this drumming, it goes very deep. I like also the dances, the costumes…. It's very, very harmonious and beautiful to my eyes."
Aleksandra Dvoryanchikova, a university researcher, was equally impressed.
"I really like this show, really colourful, the choreography…. I also like the program in the first part that shows the ocean and waves, and it was very beautiful. It's very impressive. I also very much like the sound of the Chinese traditional violin."

Dvoryanchikova was referring to the erhu, a two-stringed instrument known for its wide range of notes and mellow, haunting sound. She added that the drums in Victory Drums and Drummers of the Tang Court were "quite driving."
"It's a fantasy," said secretary and tour guide, Pirkko Tillman-Kantola.
"I like the singers and the music. They sing poems and the way they express [themselves] — it's touching. Every scene is meditation for the eyes. I like it because it expresses beauty and meditation and feelings, and every movement has that. It is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen." Anne Diaz Tilleman, a mother, expressed what many felt. "It's beautiful. I hope this is not the last time and that you will come again."
