TAMPERE, Finland—Pirkko Mäkinen, who is a hospital nurse, and Ted Keinonen, a gymnastic teacher for boys, did not regret being in the audience of the Chinese Spectacular show at Tampere Hall, Tampere, a popular Finish tourist place.

What was unusual for this smaller town is that the Divine Performing Arts company chose Tampere as one of its tour destinations, since Helsinki would usually be the preferred place for an international show.

Mr. Mäkinen was delighted to learn about China's 5,000 year-old culture. He said, "It was amazing!"

The scenes "Drummers of the Tang Court," "Victory Drums," and the "Risen Lotus Flower" caught the attention of Mr. Mäkinen. "The drums were wonderful. The meaning of the dance where they sat inside lotus flowers—where one good act could change everything—was very good."

The message "goodness and friendship" came through quite clearly and was something Mr. Mäkinen will keep in his heart.

He will tell others, "Go to see it! Look and listen, and think about it!"

When asked if he noticed any difference between the Chinese and Finish style dances, he shared, "The dancers were laughing and smiling all the time. They were very happy. We are very serious here in our cold country. The Chinese people are more positive."

Ted Keinonen, Pirkko's father was also happy to share his thoughts and impression of the scenes he saw in the Chinese Spectacular show. "What a great show! A great show! It was as remarkable as the moment I pledged my oath of honor in the Finnish military service."

He said, "I liked everything. Everything was good, grand, and beautiful. The dances, the music, and the clothing … I am so amazed at the show that I really don't know what to say. I'm speechless!"

He shared his thoughts about the Chinese Embassy's trying to stop the performance. "That's just absolutely wrong! The performers must have a right to present such art. It's so beautiful and represents freedom. It does not insult anyone."
